Current Status : SSC CGL Notification, was to be announced on 11th April, as per the information given in the SSC Calendar, 2017, however, due to some reasons, Notification was postponed and it is was finally announced on 15th May. 

Currently, SSC is accepting the Online Applications for CGL Exam and you can Submit your SSC CGL Online Application form till 16th July, 2017

SSC had announced the much awaited dates for the postponed CGL 2017 Exam. As per the Revised SSC Calendar 2017, released on 10th April, Notification for SSC CGL 2017 will be announced on 16th May and Tier-1 Exams will be held from 1st to 20th August, 2017.

Usually, SSC announces the Exam Calendar, in the month of Oct Or Nov. In 2016, SSC Exam Calendar was released on 18th October, but due to some administrative reasons, SSC failed to announce the Notification on the 11th March 2017 and subsequently, Notification was postponed. There were also talks, that NCS may conduct the CGL Exam from 2017 onwards, putting all the rumours to rest, SSC finally announced the schedule of Upcoming CGL 2017 Exam.

Many a times, the Notification and Exam dates are postponed. The recent Example is SSC CHSL 2017 Notification, that was earlier scheduled to announced on 2nd July, 2016, but delay in getting the approval for conducting Online exam led to postponement of Notification to October. This is not just the case with SSC CHSL only, In fact all the major exam, including CGL Exam , MTS Exam and several other SSC Exams.

Not only the Notification, even exam dates are not confirmed either. Earlier for CGL 2016 Notification, the exam was scheduled to be held on 8th and 22nd May, 2016, but it was postponed to August/ Sept, 2016. From this we can only say that, that only SSC Knows, when it will announce the SSC CGL Notification 2017. But you should start your preparation, with Notification to be announced in Feb, 2017 and Exam in June / July, 2017.

SSC CGL Notification announced One Day Before 

Taking everyone by surprise SSC had announced the CGL 2017 Notification on 15th May, 2017 at 8:15 PM. Notification in the PDF Format is uploaded on the Official SSC Website.As per the Notification, Online Registration, will start from tomorrow ie 16th May, 2017 and you can register upto 16th June, 2017.

Some of the major changes in the SSC CGL 2017 are

1) Time Duration is Tier-1 Exam is reduced from 75 minutes to 60 minutes only (100 Questions / 200 Marks)

2) Upper Age Limit for various posts have been increased by 3 years ie upto 30 years, for some of the Departments Like (CSS, IB, Railway, MEA, AFHQ, ITI etc)

3) For the First time, CGL posts are grouped into various categories viz Group A, B, C and D

4) Some New posts have been introduced for the first time in SSC CGL 2017. These posts are Assistant Accounts Officer, Assistants in Serious Fraud Investigation Office and Some other Ministries

5) Cut off Date for Determining the Age Limit and Educational Qualification is 1st August 2017.

6) Post Preference is required to filled at the time of submitting the CGL Online form, but you will be asked to fill the preference 2nd time during Document Verification and only at this time, it will be considered as Final

Recommended SSC CGL 2017 Post Preference for Male Females

Confused Regarding the CGL Posts? Here is the Detailed Post wise Preference for SSC CGL 2017 Exam (For Male and Female Candidates) 


If you are reading this page, then chances are you are going to apply for SSC CGL 2017 Exam and you are looking for Details on How to Fill the post preference for SSC CGL 2017 Exam. Yes, while filling the SSC CGL Online Application form, there is a field with post preferences, where you need to provide the preference for posts. As SSC CGL Exam has over 30 posts, so candidates are required to fill the preference of posts, based on which SSC can make the Final appointments


There are some posts Line Sub-Inspector in CBI, Inspector in Income tax etc that can be easily identified, but filling the preference for over 30 posts is a bit confusing and require the basic Knowledge of Job profiles of these posts.

Applicants must note that at the time of Document Verification, you will be given chance to Re- Submit your post preference. 

In 2017, SSC eases out the process of Filling the Post preferences by grouping the various posts in and instead of submitting the code for each post, you have to only mention the Group Post Code (A, B, C, and D) ie Preference order will be made in these Four Alphabets only.

Moreover, filling post preferences in mandatory, and without marking these, you cannot proceed to fill the application form. Actually, the reason for getting the preferences is to ease out the Selection process, while making the Final Merit List for each of the posts. But, before you fill the post preferences, you need to be sure of the Job Profile of various posts.


In SSC CGL Exam, posts are categorised into two types as:


1) Field Jobs

2) Desk Jobs.

While, Males, prefer and are comfortable with both the Field and Desk Jobs, on the other hand, Females prefer Sitting (Desk) Jobs. Therefore, it is of utmost requirement, that you should know the Job Profile of various posts in CGL. It is pertinent to mention here that Post Preferences, once selected, cannot be changed later. So be very careful, while making the preferences.

If you have appeared in the SSC MTS 2017 Exam held on 30th April and 14th May 2017, then there is some bad news for you, SSC had decided to cancel the whole MTS Exam 2016 and you probably know the reason and If you are not aware, then we would like to inform you, that Questions Paper of SSC MTS Exam held on 30th April and 14th May gets leaked online.

This is not the First time, that SSC Paper's getting Leaked, there are several instances in the past which shows that Paper Leakage in a regular affair in SSC. However, slowly and slowly SSC is improving its system and introduced the Online Exams for SSC CGL and SSC CHSL in 2016.

Year 2017 ,didn't start on a good note for Staff Selection Commission (SSC) as there are Frequent postpones, Paper Leakages, Delay in Announcement of results, Court Cases etc. Just take the Example of SSC CGL 2017 Notification, which was scheduled to be announced on 11th March, was postponed and later announced after a gap of 2 months on 15th May, 2017. If, you haven't yet applied for CGL-2017 Exam, then you can apply online till 16th June, 2017.

Revised SSC CGL 2017 Age Limit Criteria

Looking for Age Limit Criteria for SSC CGL Exam ? Good News Govt had increased the SSC upper age limit by 3 years.


SSC CGL 2017 Aspirants, we have a big news for you. We, all know, that for the most of posts in CGL Exam, Age limit is 18 to 27 years, and there are demands by student groups to increase the upper age limit for CGL Exam and here comes the good news Government of India through a Gazette Notification had relaxed the upper age limit by 3 years for various  posts in the Upcoming SSC CGL Exam 2017. Most of the posts for which the Age limit is increased are Group B posts having Grade Pay of Rs 4200 , Rs 4600, and Rs 4800.

This is indeed a welcome step as, with rising level of unemployment in the country, there is need of a such a step, that would encourage and give opportunity, so that more people can apply for Government Jobs in India. 

The Notification regarding the increase in Upper age limit is issued the Department of Personnel Training (DOPT), Ministry of Personnel, PG and Pensions. It is expected that these New rules may be implemented for the upcoming SSC CGL 2017 Exam, however, the exact status will be known, only after the announcement of SSC CGL 2017 Notification on 16th May, 2017 and
now when the CGL Notification is announced, it is no less than a Shocker for the CGL aspirants, as SSC had only half implemented the order

Initial look at the Notification, suggests that SSC had released it in great hurry means, there are some mistakes, in the Advertisement, and what is shocking is that SSC had made the mistake in the First Line of the Notification.

Major Mistakes in SSC CGL Notification

2) SSC Not Revised the Age Limit for some posts : Government of India had already issued a Gazette Notification in 2016, stating that all the posts with Grade Pay of Rs 4200 and Rs 4600, they have Maximum Age Limit till 30 years, but SSC had not complied with this order and published the Notification without revising the Age criteria.
