If, you think, that SSC only conducts the Exams Like CGL, CHSL, MTS, Steno and Jr. Engineer Exam, then you are wrong. SSC is a centralised Recruitment agency that does the Recruitment for Central Government Departments and Ministries. So, any Central Government Department has to approach SSC for doing the recruitment on its behalf. 

We have seen in the past that SSC does the Recruitment for Food Corporation of India, Postal Department etc

Exams Like SSC CGL, CHSL, MTS Steno etc are some of the regular exams conducted by SSC, however, SSC also conducts exams for various posts, that are referred to it by Recruitment Agencies. In 2011, SSC does the Recruitment of Scientific Assistants for Meteorological Department and In 2013, SSC does the hiring of Assistant Grade III for Food Corporation of India.

In 2017 Meteorological Department has again referred the posts of Scientific Assistants to SSC and those missed the previous recruitment of Meteorological Department can now apply for SSC Scientific Assistant Recruitment 2017.

Scientific Assistants Notification OUT!


On 18th July 2017 SSC had officially announced the Notification for Scientific Assistant posts. Though the Notification was expected to be announced on 15th July, 2017, it was announced after a delay of 3 Day and there is No change in the Last date which is same as 4th August 2017.

The Total No of vacancies that have been announced this year is 1100 posts and most important these Exams this time will be held through online mode

Some Highlights of Scientific Assistant Notification 2017

1) No of vacancies is 1102 and are subject to change depending upon the Final vacancy List.

2) These posts carry All India Service Liability ie After selection you can be posted anywhere.

3) OnlineRegistrationn Window is Open right now and you can submit the onlineformss till 4th August 2017.

4) There is NoRequirementt of Minimum age however the maximum age should not exceed 30 years.

SSC  Scientific Assitant Recruitment 2017: Vacancy Details


SSC conducts this exam, only when the vacancy is referred to it by the Meteorological Department. Last Time, SSC conducted this exam in 2011-2012, Now it is after a gap of 6 years that SSC is again going to announce the Recruitment of Scientific Assistants.

Applicants must note that Recruitment for Scientific Assistant by SSC is to be done through an All India Open Competitive Examination. Before applying for this post, applicants must note that these posts Carry All India Serviceability and you will be asked to serve anywhere in the country.

Post: Scientific Assistant (Group B Non-Gazetted)

No. of Vacancies: 1102 Posts

Note: The exact No. of vacancies, will be known only when the Notification, will be officially announced by SSC. 

Pay-Scale: Appointees will be paid monthly Salary as per the Pay-Scale of Rs 9300 - Rs 34800 (GP: Rs 4200)

When the SSC Scientific Assistant Notification will be announced?


On 10th April 2017, SSC had released its Revised Examination Calendar, that Lists the Schedule of Exams to be conducted by SSC in 2017-18. This  SSC Exam Calendar has the tentative Schedule of SSC Scientific Assistant Examination 2017.

Moreover, you should keep note that this is only the Tentative Schedule and Exact Schedule may either be same Or different, depending upon the announcement of Notification.

Here is the Tentative Schedule of Scientific Assistant Notification 

1) Date of Notification: 18th July 2017

2) Closing Date of Online Registration: 4th August 2017

3) Dates of Computer Based Exams: 20th Nov to 27th Nov, 2017.

i)  By Employment Newspaper: Go to the nearby Stationary Shop and grab the copy of Employment Newspaper Dated 15th July 2017. This will have the Detailed SSC Scientific Assistant Notification.

Who can apply for SSC Scientific Assistant Jobs?

If you are willing to apply for SSC Scientific Assistant Exam 2017, then you should full fill the below-mentioned eligibility conditions

1) Nationality: Applicant should be a citizen of India.

2) Age-Limit: Applicant should have attained the age of 18 years and maximum age should not exceed 30 years (As on the closing date of application ie 4th August 2017). Moreover, there is Relaxation in Upper Age Limit, as per the Rules of Government of India.

3) Education Qualification: Applicants willing to apply for Scientific Assistant Jobs in Indian Meteorological Department, should full fill the below-mentioned Qualification criteria

i) Applicant must have Bachelor's Degree in Science (With Physics as one of the Subject) / Degree in Agriculture  (With Physics as one of the Subject) Degree in Computer Applications / Information Technology / Computer Science OR Diploma in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from a recognised Indian University.

ii) The Duration of Degree / Diploma should be of 3 years duration.

iii) Applicants must have passed the 12th Class in science stream with Physics as one of the subjects.

iv) Applicant should have Passed the Qualifying Degree / Diploma in First Class ie 60% Marks OR 6.75 CGPA on a 10 Point Scale.

Note: Applicants must note that these above-mentioned eligibility criteria is taken from the Draft Recruitment Rules announced by Meteorological Department on 8th Feb 2016. In case there are any changes in the prescribed eligibility criteria, we will update the same on this page.

Selection Process and Exam Pattern

The Selection process for the Recruitment of Scientific Assistants in Indian Meteorological Department comprises of  2 Papers each having Duration of 2 Hours and followed by Interview.

1) Paper-1: 100 Marks
2) Paper-2: 100 Marks

Note: There is No Interview in the Scientific Assistants Exam 2017, In previous exams, there was an Interview also, but SSC has do away with follow Govt's decision to abolish Interview for some posts

Keep Note of the following things


1) Paper-1 is be held through Computer based Online Mode from 20th to 27th November 2017. If you look at the Syllabus of Paper-1 then you will find that is quite similar to SSC CGL Syllabus, so if you are going to appear for SSC CGL 2017 Exam, then you should definitely go for SSC Scientific Assistant Exam.

2) There, will be negative marking of 0.25 Marks for every wrong answer in Paper-1 and Paper 2.

3) Paper-2 will also be of objective Nature and it will also be held through online mode.

Note: Applicants must note that this is the Latest Exam pattern of  SSC Scientific Assistant Exam, 2017. There are many changes and this time, SSC has revise the Syllabus and Exam Pattern. 

There is every possibility, that SSC may eliminate the Interview stage in this Recruitment, as we have with other SSC Exams.

Syllabus for Scientific Assistants Exams Paper 1

As we all know that the Official Notification for Scientific Assistants Exam, will be announced on 15th July and it is only after that, we will get the clear picture of Syllabus and Exam Pattern, Till then you are advised to prepare with the already announced Syllabus.

1) General Intelligence and Reasoning: 25 Questions (25 Marks)




2) Quantitative Aptitude: 25 Questions (25 Marks)




3) General Awareness: 25 Questions (25 Marks)




4) English: 25 Questions(25 Marks): Questions in this section comprises of following subjects

1) English Grammar
2) Vocabulary
3) Synonyms and Antonyms
4) Comprehension
5) Direct and Indirect Usages

How to Apply?


Applicants willing to apply for SSC Scientific Assistant Recruitment 2017, can submit their applications through online format before 4th August 2017

Online Applications: SSC only accepts online applications for submitting the application form and as such, you should submit your application form at the Official SSC  Online Website @ www.ssconline.nic.in

Before you proceed to apply online, make sure you have Scanned copies of Photograph and Signature

Application fees: SSC is very much economical, as far as application fee is concerned. SSC only charges Rs 100 as application fee, that you can pay either through Online Mode Or through Challan form in any SBI Bank.

1) Who can apply for SSC Scientific Assistants Exam?

Essential for Everyone : You should have passed the 12th Class with Physics and Maths as subjects. There is No Percentage Criteria required for Class 12th 

Now Let's discuss the Qualifying Exam Criteria. You should possess any of these Qualifications.

1) Degree in Science (With Physics) as one of the subjects OR

2) Degree in Computer Science OR B Tech / B.E (Computer Sceince) OR

3) Degree in Computer Applications (BCA) OR

4) Degree in Information Technology B Sc. (IT) OR B Tech / BE (IT) OR

5) Diploma OR Degree (BE / B Tech) Electronics and Tele Communication Engineering 

Note: You should have passed your Degree / Diploma with First Class (60% Marks) OR 6.75 CGPA on 10 Point Scale
