SSC CGL 2017 Result for Tier-2 Exam

Appeared in the SSC CGL Tier-2 Exams and looking for Results. Here is the Tentative Date of Announcement of SSC CGL 2017 Tier-2 Results 

I know, you all will be waiting for the announcement of SSC CGL 2016 Tier-2 Results, and even those, who have fared well in the CGL Tier-2 Exams have even started preparing for the CGL 2017 Descriptive Paper. If, you are worried from the results side, then don't worry, as CGL 2017 Tier-2 Results, will be announced soon and for that SSC had already announced  tentative schedule regarding the Result Date and conduct of CGL Tier-3 Exam.

In this post, we will discuss the Date for announcement of CGL 2016 Tier-2 Results and Tentative Schedule for conduct of Descriptive Paper for CGL Exam.

Moreover, it is expected that SSC, will  announce the Tier-2 Results before the announcement of CGL 2017 Notification, as aspirants, know whether, they have to apply for Next CGL Exam or appear in the Descriptive Paper.

SSC CGL 2017 Syllabus for Tier-1, Tier-2

If you regularly appear in SSC Exams and particularly, SSC CGL Exam, then you should be aware of the craze that this exam has. In 2016 over 35 Lakh candidates apply for this exam and in 2017, it is expected that more than 40 Lakh candidates may appear for this exam, thereby making it one of the most competitive exams in India, next only to Railway Exams and IBPS Exams. 

The competitiveness of this exam can be judged by the fact that with every passing year, there is a significant increase in the Cut-offs. In the last 5 years, Cut-offs for CGL Exam has seen an increase of over 30%.

And when there is so much competition, the Question arises, How much time, one requires for Preparation.We feel, that Six months of Serious study is enough in cracking this exam. But the most important thing is Understanding the SSC CGL Syllabus and choosing the right books for the exam.

The Notification for SSC CGL 2017 Exam is expected to be announced 11th March 2017. However, the tentative schedule of CGL 2017 will be known, once the SSC Exam Calendar for 2017-18 Examinations, will be announced. In the month of October 2017, SSC had announced the Tentative Schedule of Exams to be conducted in 2017-18.

As per this tentative Schedule, CGL Tier-1 Exams will be conducted from 19th June to 2nd July 2017.So, that means, you still have 4 months on hand to prepare for CGL 2017 Exam.  

If you have appeared in the CGL 2016, Exam, then you must be aware, that SSC had made, some important changes in the Pattern and Scheme of SSC CGL exam and these changes will remain intact for  CGL-2017 too. But the best part of these changes in that All the CGL Tiers will now be held through Online mode (Computer based Exam), that means more Transparency, No chance of Paper leakage and quicker results.

In this post, we will share the Detailed SSC CGL 2017 Syllabus for all the Tier's viz Tier-1, Tier-2 and Tier-3. Moreover, we will also discuss the Topic wise weight age of Section, so that, you have an idea regarding the important Topics.

SSC CGL 2017 Syllabus : Tier-1 , Tier-2 and Tier-2

Knowing the syllabus and exam pattern in advance will help you in the long run, as when the Exam is Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Exam, it can really boost your preparation.

SSC CGL Exam Pattern comprises of three Tiers. viz Tier-1, Tier-2 and Tier-3 and all these Tiers are equally important, as you need to Qualify in each of these Tier's individually and Final selection comprises of performance in all three tiers.

Each Tier has its own Syllabus, Weightage and Duration, but Tier-2 Carries the maximum weighatge (400 Marks). Now, we will discuss each of these Tiers with respect to their Syllabus, Pattern and Scheme of Exam.

SSC CGL 2017 Tier-1 Syllabus

Tier-1 is the First stage of CGL Exam and all those who have successfully submitted their applications for CGL-2017 Exam, will have to appear in the Tier-1 stage.

1) Tier-1 is to be conducted through online mode ie It is a computer based Exam.

2) The No. of Questions in Tier-1 Exam is 100, with each Question carrying 2 marks, which means Tier-1 carries an overall weight age of 200 Marks and Duration of this exam is 1 Hour only.

3) There is negative marking of 0.50 marks for every wrong answer.

Syllabus : The Syllabus for CGL 2017 Tier-1 comprises of  100 Questions, with 25 Questions from each of the 4 Sections given below

  • General Intelligence and Reasoning (25 Questions / 50 Marks)
  • Quantitative Aptitude (25 Questions / 50 Marks)
  • English (25 Questions / 50 Marks)
  • General Awareness (25 Questions / 50 Marks)

Section wise CGL 2017 Tier-1 Syllabus

Here, we will discuss the Section wise Or Part wise Syllabus for SSC CGL Tier-1 Exam, this will give your the insights of topics that you need to prepare for each of these sections

English Section: In this section, Questions are mostly asked on Comprehension, Spotting Errors, Antonyms, Synonyms, Grammar etc.

Recently an aspirant filed an RTI to SSC regarding the Syllabus for English section and SSC replied with the Topic wise, distribution of marks for English section

So, you can prepare for the English section, with the Topics as mentioned in the RTI reply.

General Intelligence and Reasoning: This section includes questions both from Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning. So, if you have studied the RS Aggarwal Book for Reasoning, then you will find yourself at ease with this section.

3) Quantitative Aptitude: Simply Knows as Maths. The Level of this Paper is upto 10th Standard Only. If, you are good at Maths till Matric, then this section can be very much scoring for you.

The Questions from this section are designated to test the arithmetic aptitude of candidates and their knowledge regarding Numbers and their computation.

4) General Awareness: This is the mystery section and there is No Defined Syllabus for this section. Anything can be asked from anything. You could be asked about Questions on Polity, Constitution, General Science, Current Affairs, Who is Who

But mostly we can categorize this section in 3 parts viz

1) Static GK: Questions in this part are asked from Indian Polity, History, Geography, Culture, Economics, Scientific Research etc

2) Science: In this section, Questions are asked on General Science and itsApplicationn in Daily use. Most of the Questions are asked by Physics, Chemistry and Biology upto 10th level

3) Crap : Question comprises of Current Affairs, Current Events, Books and Authors, Persons, Places in News, Abbreviations etc.

SSC CGL 2017 Tier-2 Syllabus

This is the 2nd Phase of CGL Exam and only those who Qualify the Tier-1 stage are shortlisted to appear for CGL Tier-2 Exam. Remember Tier-2 is also an Online Exam Objective Type (Computer Based).

The Shortlisting criteria for Tier-2 comprises of scoring the minimum cut off marks, as specified by the commission. For that, you need to score about CGL 2017 Tier-1 Cut off marks. 

CGL Tier-2 Exam Pattern comprises of 4 Papers, While Paper-1 and Paper-2 is compulsory for Everyone. Paper-3 is only for those, who have applied for Statistical Investigator and Paper-4 is for those who have applied for Assistant Audit Officer and C&AG

All the 4 Papers have individual Duration of 2 hours. 

1) Paper-1 (Quantitative Abilities) : This Paper comprises of 100 Questions, with each Question Carrying 2 Marks. The overall weighatge of this Paper is 200 Marks and there is negative marking of 0.50 for every incorrect answer. 

2) Paper-2 (English Language & Comprehension) : This paper tests your English Language Skills. Again, this Paper carries weighatge of 200 Marks with 100 Questions carrying 2 Marks per Question. Here the penalty for wrong answers is 0.25 marks.

3) Paper-3: This Paper comprises of Statistics and is only for those who have applied for the post of  Statistical Investigator Gr.II & Compiler. This Paper has duration of 2 hours and there are 100 Questions with 2 marks per Question. There will be deduction of 0.50 marks for every in correct answer.

4) Paper-4: Only those who have applied for Assistant Audit Officer and C&AG need to appear in this paper. This Paper has 2 Parts viz
  • First Part comprises of Finance and Accounts, for which there are 40 Questions, carrying 80 Marks (2 Marks per Question
  • 2nd Part will have 60 Questions on Economics and Governance, carrying 120 Marks
Overall, this paper carries weightage of 200 Marks and 100 Questions

Again, there you will lose 0.50 marks, if you attempted any question with wrong answer.

SSC CGL Tier-3 Syllabus (Descriptive Paper)

All those candidates, who Pass the SSC CGL Tier-2 Stage, will be called for Tier-3 stage. 

It is worth mentioning here that Shortlisting criteria For Tier-3, comprises of marks obtained in Tier-1 and Tier-2 taken together. Only those candidates, who scores minimum qualifying marks in both the tiers and rank high in the Merit List, will be called for the Tier-3 Exam.

 Earlier there was No tier-3 in the CGL Exam, there was only Interview after Tier-2 . But with the Government's decision to dispense off with Interview for Group B, C and D posts, SSC decided to abolish the Interviews for CGL Exam.

However, SSC added a Descriptive Paper in Hindi OR English to assess the Writing Ability of Candidates , which is a must for Government Jobs. It is for the First, Time that Descriptive Paper was introduced and conducted for SSC CGL 2016 Exam.

Tier-3 Date: CGL 2017 Tier-3 Exam is tentatively scheduled to be held on 11th November, 2017.

Syllabus for Tier-3 : The Paper would comprise of Essay Writing of 200 to 250 words and Letter / Application writing of 150 too 200 words.

1) The Duration of Descriptive Paper is 1 Hour only

2) You have to choose to write the Paper in Hindi OR English Only and no other Regional Language. Moreover, Part of Paper in Hindi and Part in English may result in Disqualification and Non-Evaluation of your Paper.

So Don't mix any of these Languages in your Descriptive paper

3) The minimum Qualifying marks in this paper is 33% only.

4) Questions in Descriptive Paper will be of 10+2 Standard.

Note: This Paper will be conducted in Pen Paper mode and not through computer based mode

Final Merit for SSC CGL 2017 Exam

The final merit for CGL Exam comprises of marks obtained in the Tier-1, Tier-2 and Tier-3 taken together. Shortlisted candidates from all the 3 tiers, will be called to appear IVth Tier, which is Qualifying in nature

1) Only those, candidates, who score, minimum cut off marks as decided by commission in Tier-1 will be shortlisted for Tier-2 stage. 

2) For Shortlisting to Tier-3 stage comprises of marks obtained in Both Tier-1 and Tier-2

SSC CGL 2017 Tier-IV Stage.

Only those candidates, who score the minimum Qualifying marks, as decided by the commission in all the three tiers, will be called for Tier-IV.

The Tier-IV comprises of Data Entry Skill test and Computer Proficiency test . While the Skill test is for those, who have applied for Post of Tax Assistants (In Central Excise and Income Tax) and the Computer Proficiency test for those who have applied for Assistant Section Officer in CSS.

Both Skill test and Proficiency test are of Qualifying nature and more information in this regard, will be uploaded on the SSC Regional Websites. 


There is every likelihood, that SSC will make No Changes, neither in the Exam Pattern Nor in the SSC CGL Syllabus 2017. However, if there are any changes made whether in Eligibility criteria and Exam Pattern, we will update the same on this page.
